Letters From The Past Speak To The Future
The Fundy Region Transition House has been serving the women and children of
Charlotte County for 30 years. In that time, the house and its staff have touched the lives of many victims of abuse and domestic violence. Through the years, the staff at the House have received scores of cards and countless letters from whose lives have been changed, for the better.
The impact of the countless hours of hard work performed by staff, volunteers, to provide the many benefactors of the House a sampling of the path that lays before those who may step through the FRTH doors for the first time - but moreover, to show those who may need FRTH services that it is possible to escape domestic violence, to show that lives can, and do change.
Below are a letter and other testimonials from individuals and families.
I lived at the Transition House in my teenage years and I found the staff very helpful. They provided me with a safe place which I didn’t feel I had at the time, guidance as to how to keep going, care for me teaching me how to keep care of myself, showing me that they cared when I felt nobody else did, comfort which I did not feel at home by encouraging and the time they took from their busy schedules to talk to me sometimes I feel until they were blue in the face. From those conversations, I felt much comfort and it surely has helped me carry on when things get “rocky” and how special we are as individuals and indicating how far I have come and that I keep trying for my family. That is so heartfelt.
As I struggled to find my identity, I knew the staff were always there if I needed to talk, no matter what time of day, they are very good listeners: I learned some much needed rules too. As I needed the house, the staff were outstanding always trying to teach me how to help (my kids) express their feelings and working with them on how to show how they were feeling and keeping them busy with activities while I was dealing with my own “stuff”. I found comfort in knowing I did not need money to live there and if donations came in we got to get some clothes. That made me feel so special it gave me such a “Pick Me Up” feeling when we didn’t have much (Kids and I). The staff always made me and the kids feel like family because we never went without, and at Christmas time we always had more than enough.
The staffs were very helpful by accompanying me to uncomfortable appointments so if I didn’t understand they could help me and that I did not need to face it alone. They are always there and I know during hard times that the people at Fundy House care “What” happens to me and want the “best” for me that I am OK and if I’m not they always try and help me find some outside counsel if I can’t do it myself for my family and my own benefit. The communication that we keep going by just touching base even when things are going good, instills encouragement, comfort and courage to keep “plugging away” and that’s helped mould me to who I am today. Their care has often kept me “pressing on”.
The way you all make me feel is there is never a problem to “Big” for us, come if need be and we’ll help you with open, caring arms.
Thank you ever so much for everything, I love you all.
“You’ve all played a special part in my life to help me achieve my goals. You’ve made a tremendous difference in my life.”
“Thank you with all my heart for all the help and support. I so appreciate the growtn I’ve personally achieved all because of you here.”
“You have all been so great. You mad a difficult time much easier to deal with. Thanks to all of you. We are lucky to have you.”
“When we give from the heart it stays in the heart! I will always remember and appreciate everything that you have all done for me.”
“I think we are all happier than we have been for a long time and I believe we wouldn’t be where we are without all of you. I came in scared and alone and you all helped to fix me.”
“We have a place now where there are friends to help and shoulders to cry on, a place where we can get ourselves and our lives back on the right course. It’s a place where we can get back our dignity and self-respect.”
“I will always remember, my heart is so full of compassion, Thank you.”
“You guys helped me when I needed it the most. You made me believe in myself. You helped me to be me again. You guys are angels from heaven.”
“I hope that every woman feel as fortunate as I do, to have had Fundy House to rely on.”
“I got here and everything changed for me because I got a lot of support from the whole staff. I would love to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. God Bless everyone on staff.”
“Every time I pass by the Transition House I think of all of you. I remember all of the love and caring and friendship that I received there then and still do.”
“Miss you Hugs. I’m doing great!”
“My life has turned around, and I love every minute of it.”
“Got a special Mother’s Day with things so thoughtfully picked out.”
“Thank you for your help for my family, for the beds. My kids really like them.”
